CANTIGAS DE SANTA MARIA

the perfect miracles of the Virgin Mary

The repertoire of the concert consists of material from the album recorded in 2016 for the Dominican Liturgical Center Foundation in Krakow, Poland.

Cantigas de Santa Maria are songs praising the Virgin Mary and describing the miracles she has performed. Originally created in the thirteenth century, during the reign of the Castilian king Alfonso X el Sabio,  some of the “canticles” have been arranged in accordance with the historically informed performance practice, while others in the spirit of licentia poetica, giving them a completely new shape. In our album we can hear them for the first time in Polish – in the beautiful, poetic translation of Magdalena Sendor. In concert this varies, we often return to the original text.
